Not too long ago, many considered Elon Musk‘s SpaceX a joke. Today it made history with NASA. The company successfully launched the SpaceX Crew Dragon carrying NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley.

For the first time, NASA astronauts have launched from American soil in a commercially built and operated American crew spacecraft. SpaceX Crew Dragon is now on its way to the International Space Station.

“Today a new era in human spaceflight begins as we once again launched American astronauts on American rockets from American soil on their way to the International Space Station, our national lab orbiting Earth,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine in a press statement.

‘Snowpiercer’ Episode 2 review: Prepare to glaze

The "Snowpiercer" TV series stars Jennifer Connelly as first-class passenger Melanie Cavill.

Of all the different kinds of TV shows they could have turned “Snowpiercer” into, was cop drama on your wishlist? Then maybe you will enjoy the “Snowpiercer” Netflix series. As for me, it just makes my eyes glaze over.

In my review of Episode 1, I said maybe the show will get better. I will be giving more details about the show starting with this review, which some might consider spoilers. Episode 2 is called “Prepare to Brace”. And if you’re a fan of the 2013 movie like me, then you really should brace yourself because this TV series is going in a whole different direction.

To be fair, they did tell us from the start that this would reboot the movie. That it would also be based on the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige that Bong Joon-ho adapted. And that since it’s a TV series, they can now explore the larger world that was only hinted at in the movie.

Unfortunately, there’s a reason we have the saying: less is more.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones: Playing with Fire Ep 3 review

Marvel’s Jessica Jones is a Serial Box exclusive.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones: Playing with Fire
Season 1 Episode 3: “Never Saw It Coming”
By Lauren Beukes, Vita Ayala, Sam Beckbessinger, Zoe Quinn, and Elsa Sjunneson
Narrated by Fryda Wolff

Marvel’s Jessica Jones: Playing with Fire is about the reluctant superhero Jessica Jones. But it’s also an examination of what it means to be human. And to be human is to learn to live with pain, sorrow, and loss.

“There is no right demographic for depression and suffering; there is no archetype for the need to self-medicate. She, of all people, knows that despair can sometimes run so deep it hits bone, regardless of what’s happening on the surface.”

In Season 1 Episode 3: “Never Saw It Coming”, Vita Ayala takes over the writing chores from Lauren Beukes, who penned the first two episodes. Since this is already Episode 3 of this Serial Box exclusive, I will be giving away more details, which some might consider spoilers. You could read my reviews of Episode 1 and Episode 2 before proceeding.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones: Playing with Fire Ep 2 review

Jessica Jones is not your usual superhero.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones: Playing with Fire
Season 1 Episode 2: “The Boy Under the Bridge”
By Lauren Beukes, Vita Ayala, Sam Beckbessinger, Zoe Quinn, and Elsa Sjunneson
Narrated by Fryda Wolff

“Her psych might say she takes on other people’s pain to avoid dealing with her own. But who else is going to?” That passage from Marvel’s Jessica Jones: Playing with Fire Season 1 Episode 2: “The Boy Under the Bridge” really sums up Jessica Jones for me.

Jessica never asked for superpowers. She doesn’t want to be a superhero. And yet every time she has a chance to walk away instead of helping someone, she chooses to get involved. Because someone has to.

That’s why I love this Serial Box exclusive, which does an excellent job of bringing Jessica’s world to life and making us understand what makes her tick. As mentioned in my review of Episode 1, her experiences in life have made her cynical. She can be mean when she loses her temper. If she could, she would just drown her sorrows in alcohol all the time. And yet when push comes to shove, she uses her superpowers to help others.

Now that’s a superhero.

Cyberbullying: Toxic online culture kills Hana Kimura

Technology column header

Hana Kimura died at age 22. A victim of cyberbullying.

The news broke my heart on Saturday, May 24. Hana was one of my favorite pro wrestlers, even though I didn’t know her until she became a housemate on the popular Japanese reality TV show on Netflix, “Terrace House”. Hana is half-Japanese, half-Indonesian, and a second-generation pro wrestler, being the daughter of retired pro wrestler and mixed martial arts fighter Kyoko Kimura. Later I would find out that her Indonesian dad left before Hana was a year old, and that his identity isn’t publicly known.

From the moment she appeared, Hana became my favorite housemate this season. In fact, my favorite “Terrace House” cast member of all time. Because of her, I started watching her wrestling promotion, World Wonder Ring Stardom, which is usually just referred to as Stardom. I’ve been a pro wrestling fan since I was a kid and love Japanese pro wrestling, or puroresu. But I hadn’t been been watching the latest generation of Joshi (Japanese women’s wrestling) wrestlers. Hana changed that. She was a charismatic, hardworking, and talented pro wrestler. And a joyful, kind, and loving person.

Bank On Wheels is the country’s first 5G mobile banking kiosk. UnionBank launched it shortly before the announcement of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). This was actually serendipitous, according to Henry Aguda. Aguda is UnionBank’s SEVP, Chief Technology and Operations Officer, and Chief Transformation Officer.

“Our president and CEO Edwin Bautista has always envisioned a modern and smart rendition of a mobile banking kiosk. A moving version of our fully digital bank branch which we call The ARK. ‘Snowpiercer’ Episode 1 review: The quality changed

"Snowpiercer" started streaming on Netflix on May 25.

“Resistance is never futile but Wilford’s train is a fortress to class.” This kind of dialogue is typical of the “Snowpiercer” Netflix series — at least based on Season 1 Episode 1: “First, the Weather Changed”.

“Snowpiercer” seems so desperate to be a “serious show” that it’s almost too painful to watch. It spells out everything and beats you over the head with an explanation of the important things it’s tackling.

The first episode of this reboot of Bong Joon-ho’s critically-acclaimed 2013 movie managed to do something I didn’t think was possible. It turned a haunting, thought-provoking film into a boring, generic TV show. Considering the lead actors are Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs, who won an Oscar and a Tony, respectively, that’s a stunning feat.
