Korean webtoon ‘D.P Dog Day’ to become Netflix drama
Netflix has confirmed production for the original drama series “D.P.” (Deserter Pursuit) in collaboration with director Han Jun-hee. “D.P.” is based on the Korean webtoon “D.P Dog Day” by Kim Bo-tong.
The Korean webtoon tells the story of a South Korean Army private assigned to a unit responsible for arresting deserters. In his job, he encounters confused young adults.
Jung Hae In in talks?
It shows the perspective of a soldier tasked with pursuing other soldiers. But it also balances this out by portraying the pains and struggles of those who choose to desert.
“D.P.” stands for “Deserter Pursuit,” a unit within the Army’s Military Police that chases down AWOL soldiers. With this novel premise, the original webtoon became a huge hit, with more than 10 million readers. It also brought to light violent acts and violations of human rights within the military.
A Soompi article in April said Jung Hae In was in talks to star in this Netflix drama adaptation.
“The agency stated, ‘Jung Hae In has received a casting offer for ‘D.P Dog Day,’ but he has not yet decided [whether to accept the role].”
‘D.P.’ creative team
Director Han is the man behind “Coin Locker Girl” and “Hit-and-Run Squad”.
His debut film “Coin Locker Girl” caused an uproar in the Korean film industry. It was selected to screen in the International Critics’ Week section of the 68th Cannes Film Festival in 2015.
He and the original webtoon writer Kim will collaborate on the screenplay for this Netflix series adaptation.
Kim has garnered much attention for his award-winning webtoon series AMANZA, which received Our Manhwa of Today. This is the most prestigious comic book award in South Korea. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism presents this award.
Lezhin Studio will produce “D.P.” in association with Homemade Film.
As you can see, it’s not only Kpop enjoying huge success worldwide, but also K-dramas.
