The Siege of Paris: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in Francia

We’ll always have Paris — Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: The Siege of Paris, that is. The second Assassin’s Creed Valhalla expansion, which was launched on Aug. 12, takes place in Francia, where the legendary Viking warrior Eivor must lead his men against the forces of the Mad King, Charles the Fat. The Siege of Paris is also a milestone for the Ubisoft team in Asia, as it marks the first time Ubisoft Singapore and Ubisoft Philippines have led content development of this scale.

“It is the Franks. There is a sickness in them. Charles the Fat has begun a slow march against the Norse villages there,” The Siege of Paris launch trailer tells us in an ominous warning. And so will we join Eivor in a dangerous path that will ultimately lead to one of the most infamous battles in Viking history.

Joining the Elgring clan

At a press briefing held prior to the launch, Ubisoft Singapore and Philippines Managing Director Darryl Long gave a sneak preview of the new expansion, which features the return of Infiltration Missions. These are directly inherited from longtime, fan-favorite Black Box Missions, allowing players to choose the best way to eliminate their designated target.

The Siege of Paris will be available for all Season Pass owners or as a separate purchase by all owners of the main game. While there is no mandatory power level to play The Siege of Paris, the suggested power level for Francia is 200.

Apart from Eivor, the main characters of The Siege of Paris include Sigfred, the chieftain of the Elgring clan, and his niece and second-in-command, Toka. As Eivor, you will leave England in order to join the Elgring clan in their fight against the Frankish armies.

Meanwhile, the main characters from the Frankish side are Charles the Fat, King of Francia; Richardis, Queen of Francia; and Count Odo, the protector of Paris.

Fighting the Mad King

Your goal is to end the Mad King Charles the Fat’s reign in order to secure the future of your clan. To accomplish this, you must infiltrate the walls of 9th century Paris, aid the resistance against the Carolingian Empire, explore the Frankish countryside, and assassinate key enemies.

As Singapore Games Association Chairperson Gwen Guo noted during the press briefing, one of the great things about the Assassin’s Creed series is that you actually learn while playing, because games are a great platform for teaching history and other useful information in an engaging manner.

If you’re a fan of the History Channel’s “Vikings“ like me, then you already saw the Siege of Paris of 845 AD led by the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok (or Lodbrok). The Siege of Paris expansion takes place 40 years after that sacking of the city in 845 AD.
