HYBE, the South Korean entertainment company behind the world’s most successful K-pop group, BTS, has announced a joint venture to create non-fungible tokens (NFTs) featuring its artists and content.

Not only that, but also HYBE has revealed that it will release original webcomics and web novels featuring its artists, including BTS, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), and ENHYPEN, through digital comics platform WEBTOON.

“Webcomics and web novels are some of the most exciting categories in global entertainment, with a growing creator economy of superstar creators, massive fandoms around the world, and diverse IP fueling a new era of adaptations in TV and film. We’re thrilled to work with HYBE to bring these incredible stories to fans all over the world in formats they know and love on WEBTOON,” WEBTOON Founder and Global CEO JunKoo Kim said in a press statement.

HYBE and NFTs

Meanwhile, HYBE has established a joint venture with South Korean financial technology firm Dunamu that will focus on NFTs.

“The two companies have entered into a strategic partnership to establish a joint corporation that will do business related to NFTs, which will allow content and products based on artist-related IP to be digitally owned by fans. HYBE and Dunamu shared their plans to think of ways to safely broaden the fan experience, one way being the collection, exchange, and display of IP-based digital assets on platforms like Weverse.”

The original webcomics and web novels featuring BTS, TXT, and ENHYPEN will be released on WEBTOON starting Jan. 14 with 7Fates: CHAKHO, which features BTS. Inspired by the “Chakhogapsa” tiger hunters of Korea’s Joseon Dynasty, this urban fantasy story is set in the near future.

This will be followed by the urban fantasy and teen romance DARK MOON starring ENHYPEN on Jan. 15, and THE STAR SEEKERS featuring TXT on Jan. 16.
