Recognizing the needs of Filipinos in the new normal, on-demand service provider MyKuya has introduced new and unique offerings, including barber services in partnership with Felipe and Sons.

MyKuya users can now hire a personal barber through the MyKuya app to give them a haircut or shave in the comfort of their own home or office. They can also request the barber to give them a quick shoulder and head massage as part of the service. The MyKuya partner barbers will wear their set of personal protective equipment and bring their own sanitized equipment.

The Japanese government has appointed Hatsune Miku, one of the world’s most popular virtual idols, as Coronavirus Countermeasure Supporter.

Developed by Sapporo-based music technology company Crypton Future Media, INC., Hatsune Miku is a singing voice synthesizer featured in over 100,000 songs released worldwide. Her name means “the first sound from the future”.

Knowing that a lot of people would be panic buying when the modified enhanced community quarantine was announced on Aug. 4, a customer named Cathy decided to book a MyKuya partner to line up and do the grocery shopping for her instead.

MyKuya partner Jomar, a former security guard at an establishment in Muntinlupa City, accepted the customer’s request without giving it a second thought and diligently followed her instructions.

Following a donation drive at the Suits For Heroes website, fans are now invited to bid on high-quality prints of the campaign’s distinctive art pieces in a blind online auction. Filipino comic book artists and the country’s top comic book shops joined forces for the #SuitsForHeroes PPE fundraiser. They launched this to help purchase personal protective equipment for real-life superheroes: the Filipino health workers fighting COVID-19.

Hong Kong’s annual StartmeupHK Festival became a virtual event for the first time this year. Organized by Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), StartmeupHK Festival is the startup showpiece of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

On the final day of the Festival, at the HKFIA 2020 Forum organized by Sina Finance, Paul Chan, Financial Secretary, the Hong Kong SAR Government, spoke about Hong Kong’s resilience while recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that despite its many challenges, Hong Kong is still faring very well and again led the world last year in funds raised through initial public offerings.

In a real-life crossover, internationally-renowned Filipino comic book artists and the country’s top comic book shops have united for a good cause. They have joined forces for the #SuitsForHeroes PPE fundraiser to help purchase personal protective equipment for real-life superheroes: the Filipino health workers fighting COVID-19.

Comic Odyssey, in association with Filbar’s and Planet X, and in partnership with Wunderman Thompson Philippines, has launched this #SuitsForHeroes PPE fundraiser. The inspiration for #SuitsForHeroes was the notion that frontliners, through their efforts to save lives, are just as super and heroic as the characters appearing in comic books.

With thousands going back to the workplace in the Philippines amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the commuting public has to adapt to the new normal for their protection. The Department of Transportation has released community guidelines to address this, one of which is the mandatory use of cashless payments in public transportation. This has made contactless payment technology such as the TRIPKO transport card more important than ever.

Apart from the normal challenges of using public transportation, commuters must now also practice social distancing. They also worry about interacting with other people and touching shared items such as cash. This is why more Filipinos have embraced digital amid the pandemic.

EdVision launched to help schools embrace e-learning

To help schools transition to the new normal and embrace e-learning, Lenovo Philippines, in collaboration with Microsoft, has launched the EdVision program.

Even though classes in the Philippines are scheduled to reopen in August, schools will have to maintain learning through virtual platforms. This is to comply with the community quarantine and social distancing protocols. Under the EdVision program, a number of pioneer schools in the Philippines will get free access to online resources to help them through their education transformation journey. They will also enjoy complimentary or subsidized access to the latest solutions in education tech.
