Are you ready for battle? VALORANT, the highly anticipated 5v5 first-person tactical shooter from Riot Games, is now live and free to play worldwide.
Riot Games has successfully launched the game on schedule in the midst of a global pandemic. Gamers in most regions can create a VALORANT account and download the free-to-play PC game.
Riot Games has also released VALORANT’s brand new launch cinematic trailer called “Duelists”. They have also launched the latest gameplay trailer set on VALORANT’s newest map, Ascent. You can watch both trailers in this article.
The world of VALORANT
VALORANT takes place on a near-future Earth. The game lets you choose from a global cast of agents. All of them hail from a real-world location and culture. For example, the “Duelists” launch cinematic trailer showcases Jett, who hails from South Korea, and Phoenix, the agent from the United Kingdom.
Each agent brings a unique set of tactical abilities they can use to gather information, fortify locations, scout for enemy intel, breach defensive sites, control territory, and more. Abilities create unique tactical opportunities for you to take the right shot.
Abilities are designed to complement — not overpower — gunplay through tactical information and strategic support. Each agent brings a unique set of abilities that change how you approach a situation.
Record-setting closed beta
VALORANT quickly established itself as a fan favorite among the global first-person shooter community after launching its closed beta in April 2020.
The game made history on its first day, breaking viewership records with 34 million hours watched in a single day, and surpassing 1.7 million peak concurrent viewers. This is a peak concurrent record second only to Riot Games’ 2019 League of Legends World Championship Finals.
Over the course of VALORANT’s two-month beta testing period, an average of nearly three million players logged on each day to play. Fans also demonstrated their enthusiasm for the shooter by watching more than 470 million hours of VALORANT closed beta streams on Twitch, the world’s leading service and community for multiplayer entertainment, and Korean video streaming service AfreecaTV.
