BonChon Chicken Philippines introduced Filipina actress Heart Evangelista as its new love ambassador in the Saranghae Hour Facebook Live event on Feb. 28. The actress, who is a big fan of K-Culture (Korean culture), including Korean food, K-dramas, and K-pop, confessed to loving BonChon for years.
“I remember nagdi-date pa lang kami ni Chiz [Editor’s note: her husband, former senator and now Sorsogon Governor Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero] noon, e. Tapos kumakain kami sa may Fort, yung BonChon doon. And then ‘yung kids din ni Chiz, favorite din ang BonChon. So talagang every Sunday, ‘yun talaga ang kinakain namin. ‘Yun ang aming bonding time (I remember, Chiz and I were still dating. We would eat at The Fort, the BonChon restaurant there. And Bonchon was also the favorite of Chiz’s kids. So every Sunday, that’s where we would eat. That was our bonding time),” Evangelista shared.
Portrait of Heart Evangelista as a BLINK
Held in collaboration with Happee Hour, an online community built from a shared love for music, K-pop, and everything in between, Saranghae Hour is part of BonChon’s commitment to celebrating K-Culture and expressing its love for Filipinos.
The Facebook Live event gave viewers a chance to know more about Evangelista while participating in online games and getting the chance to win prizes. The grand prize was a trip for two to South Korea in 2022, in partnership with the Korean Tourism Organization.
During Saranghae Hour, Evangelista shared her love for the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK. In fact, she confessed that she would “totally camp out of the studio of BLACKPINK just to meet them”.
She explained that she was disappointed that she couldn’t go with her husband and his daughter Chesi to South Korea to watch a BLACKPINK concert, as she was busy with work at the time.
Evangelista also shared that she would like to see BLACKPINK members Lisa, who is the global ambassador of CELINE, and Jennie, who is the ambassador of Chanel in South Korea, during Paris Fashion Week. Evangelista was at Paris Fashion Week but not during the times Lisa and Jennie attended.
Jennie superfan
Asked by Happee what she fangirls over about Korean idols, Evangelista said she’s more into fashion.
“Kunwari, nakita kong suot ni Jennie, Chanel na ganito, bibilhin ko ‘yun. Basta anything Chanel ni Jennie, bibilhin ko (For example, if I see Jennie wearing a Chanel item, I would buy it. Anything Chanel that Jennie wears, I’ll buy),” Evangelista replied with a hearty laugh.
“Superfan talaga ako ni Jennie (I’m really a superfan of Jennie),” she added.
Since the arrival of the BonChon Korean restaurant in the Philippines in 2010, it has remained true to the founder Seh Jinduk’s dream of sharing South Korea’s favorite comfort food to the world.
In fact, Saranghae Hour also introduced the newest fried chicken in the Philippines, BonChon’s Classic Fried Chikin — a crunchy fried chicken with a unique Korean flavor. According to BonChon, this is best eaten while watching your favorite K-drama and K-pop performances, because it is prepared like the fried chicken you see on Korean shows.
With Evangelista as the new BonChon love ambassador, expect both to bring their passion for K-Culture to Filipinos even more.
