“TRESE” fans rejoice! Netflix Philippines has launched the official trailer of the highly anticipated Netflix Original Anime Series based on the critically acclaimed Philippine graphic novels. The “TRESE” trailer features the Filipino language version of the series, with the Filipino voice cast led by Liza Soberano, who voices lead character Alexandra Trese. Filipino band UDD, formerly known as Up Dharma Down, composed the official soundtrack titled “PAAGI”, with lyrics by Armi Millare and Paul Yap.

Based on the graphic novels created by Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo, “TRESE” will now bring Philippine mythology to a global audience with the premiere of the anime series on June 11 — right before Independence Day in the Philippines on June 12. Netflix also revealed today the English language and Filipino language voice cast of “TRESE”. Darren Criss (“The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story”), Jon Jon Briones (“Ratched”), Nicole Scherzinger (“Moana”), Manny Jacinto (“The Good Place”), Lou Diamond Phillips (“La Bamba”) and Dante Basco (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) will join Filipino-Canadian actress Shay Mitchell (“YOU”, “Pretty Little Liars”), who was previously announced as the voice of Alexandra Trese in the English version.

Meanwhile, joining Soberano (“My Ex and Whys”, “Alone/Together”) in the Filipino language version are Simon dela Cruz (as Crispin and Basilio), Apollo Abraham (Captain Guerrero), Christopher Carlo Caling (Hank), Christian Velarde (Nuno), and Eugene Adalia (Anton Trese). Well-respected Filipino Language Voice Artist Director Rudolf Baldonado will direct the Filipino voice talents.

“It’s an honor to be the voice of an iconic character such as Alexandra Trese. I’m a huge fan of Budjette and KaJO’s award-winning ‘TRESE’ comics. Maraming salamat! Excited na ako (Thank you very much. I’m already excited)!” Soberano said in the press statement issued on March 8 when she was first announced as the voice of the lead character in the Filipino language version.

Set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding among humans, the series will show Alexandra Trese going head to head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings.

Bringing Philippine mythology to the world

“TRESE” has certainly come a long way since its origins in 2005.

“When we started ‘TRESE’ back in 2005, we did it for fun, because we wanted to tell stories about Philippine myth and folklore through the lens of a detective story. We photocopied 30 copies and sold it for less than a dollar. Most of copies ended up with friends. Thankfully, more people wanted to read our stories. So, we are extremely excited to have partnered up with ABLAZE and now have a chance to share with the world the wonders and mysteries of Philippine mythology to a new set of readers,” Tan said in a press statement last year announcing that Portland-based ABLAZE was releasing the series of graphic novels.

The six episodes of this Netflix Original Anime Series will be released all at once on June 11.
