Spotify has tapped Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, BLACKPINK, Travis Scott, and Billie Eilish to unveil the new look for its Today’s Top Hits flagship playlist.
The Spotify video shows the four members of the popular South Korean girl group BLACKPINK — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — on a futuristic stage, with a bangless Lisa saying the group’s “BLACKPINK in your area” slogan. Incidentally, BLACKPINK and Dua Lipa previously collaborated on the 2018 song “Kiss and Make Up“.

Here’s what Billboard has to say about the Today’s Top Hits rebranding.
“Today’s Top Hits on Spotify includes some of the biggest songs in the world, so it makes sense that some of the biggest music acts in the world are helping launch a brand-new look for the streamer’s most popular playlist. Below, Billboard can exclusively unveil a video ushering in a new era for the playlist starring Billie Eilish, Blackpink, Dua Lipa, Travis Scott and Bad Bunny.
“In the video, the superstars look like they’re inside their very own video game (or perhaps inside the revamped playlist itself), as Scott mans a musical command station, Bad Bunny mines sonic gems, and Eilish squeezes lightning between her fingers.”
Why did Spotify decide to rebrand Today’s Top Hits?
Here’s what Spotify Head of Global Hits Ned Monahan said in an interview with Music Ally prior to the announcement of the rebranding.
“It’s slightly unexpected to hear Spotify enthusing about Today’s Top Hits as a playlist for breaking emerging artists, rather than simply reflecting the biggest hits. But the breaking aspect is something Monahan was keen to stress.
“He cited the example of Tate McRae, whose track ‘you broke me first’ was her breakout single, performing so well on Spotify’s pop playlists that the company added it to Today’s Top Hits in July 2020.
“’It helped the track grow month-over-month 73% from July to August, and it continued to grow in August, up 91% month over month. In September, the streams from TTH had more than doubled, up 137% as the song continued to perform well,’ said Monahan.”
So, are you excited to hear great music from established and emerging artists on Today’s Top Hits?
