As I mentioned in my James Bond: Origin Vol. 2 HC review, I wasn’t really a James Bond fan. Reading the James Bond comics of Dynamite Entertainment, however, changed that. James Bond #6 is another great issue that will make you glad 007 is in comic books.

Before Dynamite Entertainment, I didn’t know Bettie Page. An American model whose heyday in the 50s immortalized her as the Queen of Pinups, the real-life Bettie Page was a remarkable woman who became an iconic figure in pop culture.

Which is why I’m happy to meet Bettie through Karla Pacheco’s (Spider-Woman) new series, which is beautifully illustrated by Vincenzo Federici (Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep). Spoilers ahead.

James Bond: Reimagining the man with the Midas touch

Arguably the best James Bond villain, and certainly the one with most memorable quote ("No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!"), Goldfinger has been reimagined in Greg Pak's incredible 007 series.

James Bond 007 Vol. 2 HC
Writer: Greg Pak
Artist: Eric Gapstur and Robert Carey
Cover: Dave Johnson
FC | 152 pages | Action/Adventure | $24.99 | Teen+

Arguably the best James Bond villain, and certainly the one with most memorable quote (“No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!”), Goldfinger has been reimagined in Greg Pak’s incredible 007 series.

This is a much scarier Goldfinger, “the most ruthless sociopath in the world”, as the previews described him. And facing him is a deadlier, more desperate James Bond than the one we know from the film named after this villain. Spoilers ahead.

When it comes to being a comic book fan, one of the biggest in the Philippines would have to be Jiggy Cruz. In fact, he used to blog about comic books for Yahoo! Philippines. That was how we met, when I invited him to join our Yahoo! Southeast Asia blog network, which I was overseeing at the time.

Nowadays, Cruz is in the entertainment business as a producer, working with people who create videos for brands and services. And of course he is still a big comic book fan. He loves Marvel Comics, in particular, and his favorite superhero is Spider-Man.
