Toei Animation has revealed “Moon Color Chainon” as the theme song of the highly anticipated two-part “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: Eternal” movie.

Japanese idol group Momoiro Clover Z (Momoiro Kurōbā Zetto), which also provided the theme song for the “Sailor Moon Crystal” anime series, will perform “Moon Color Chainon”. In one of the two versions of the song, the voice actresses of Sailor Moon (Mitsuishi Kotono), Sailor Mercury (Kanemoto Hisako), Sailor Mars (Satō Rina), Sailor Jupiter (Koshimizu Ami), and Sailor Venus (Itō Shizuka) will sing with them.

‘Momokuro’ or ‘Eternal’?

A short music video was also posted on YouTube to promote “Moon Color Chainon”, which will be released on Jan. 13, 2021.

Momoiro Clover Z, also known as MCZ or Momoclo (Momokuro), will perform two versions of “Moon Color Chainon”. The “Momokuro Edition” will only feature the Japanese idol group. The “Eternal Edition”, however, includes the voice actresses of the Pretty Guardians.

“Following the anime ‘Sailor Moon Crystal’, we will be in charge of the theme song for the movie version ‘Sailor Moon: Eternal’. This time, we will sing as ‘Momoiro Clover Z with Sailor 5 Warrior’ together with Sailor Moon and the Sailor 5 Warriors. We’re very happy to have something like this. The song ‘Moon Pride’ that we sang last time has changed from the image of a cool girl, and this time it’s a slightly mature song. Please watch at the theater,” Momoiro Clover Z said in a press statement.

“I was very nervous about the movie theme song, but it was encouraging with my fellow warriors… and with everyone at Momoiro Clover Z. Akiko Kosaka’s melody is wonderful, and I think that you will be able to immerse yourself in the afterglow with various thoughts after watching the movie. The latest movie version for the first time in 25 years is full of Sailor Warrior growth, Kyun Kyun’s Chibiusa and Elios, and attractive enemy characters. Please come and see us at the theater,” said Mitsuishi, the voice actress of Sailor Moon.

The first part of “Sailor Moon: Eternal” will come out on Jan. 8, 2021, while the second film will be released on Feb. 11.
