“The Intuition of Haruhi Suzumiya”, the first new light novel in the popular Haruhi Suzumiya series in nine-and-a-half years, is coming out on Nov. 25.

Written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito, Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko’s Haruhi Suzumiya series of light novels has sold a cumulative total of over 20 million copies. The new light novel is the 12th in the series. It features the completely new work “Tsuruya-san’s Challenge”, which has more than 250 pages. It also includes two short stories previously published in art books and magazines: “Random Numbers” and “Seven Wonders Overtime”.

Light novel series

The cover illustration of the new light novel depicts Haruhi and Tsuruya-san. The first production limited edition will have a reversible cover. The front side features the publisher’s current paperback specification with the blue spine. The backside, however, reproduces the old paperback specification with the classic red spine. This is for the benefit of those who collected the first printings of the previous 11 light novels.

In addition, Animate will release an Animate limited set that comes with a graphic T-shirt. The T-shirt shows Haruhi Suzumiya, Yuki Nagato, and Mikuru Asahina together, drawn by Ito.

The light novel series features the adventures of eccentric schoolgirl Haruhi and the club she has established. This club is called the SOS Brigade, which was originally short for “Spreading Excitement all Over the World with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade”. It now stands for “Saving The World By Overloading It With Fun Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade”.

The first light novel, “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya”, was published in Japan in 2003. The light novels have spawned an anime TV series, four manga series, an animated movie, two web anime series, and a number of video games.

The anime TV series first aired in Japan from April 2-July 2, 2006 and contained 14 episodes. The Season 1 episodes were aired in non-linear order, and the second season was partly a re-airing of the whole series. It mixed in new episodes with those of the first season, based on chronology.
