Domo arigato, GOMO, for showing Filipinos it’s possible for a telco to offer an all-digital approach, no expiry data, and the ability to convert data to calls and texts. GOMO is a brand designed from the ground up to offer a fully digital experience that is not only tailored to today’s digital natives, but also enables the telco to minimize operating costs.

“It’s really about being able to change the business model. Doing no expiry or doing unlimited data takes a lot from a telco operator,” Eric Leif Tanbauco, Head of GOMO, said in a response to a question from Digital Life Asia.

Not for digital dinosaurs

While I’m a digital immigrant rather than a digital native, thankfully I’ve been digital for over two decades now as a proud member of Generation X who also happened to become a tech journalist. Because this telco is definitely not for digital dinosaurs.

A few months ago, I saw GOMO being promoted on the Grab Philippines app and immediately decided to have it delivered. And I can say that I love the fact that this telco is fully digital and offers a pretty cool app. With data that doesn’t expire. Because why the heck should data have an expiry date?

I also love ‘Mo Creds. This feature of the app allows you to convert your data to calls or SMS. Which shows the telco really understands its market of digital natives. Because why on earth would you want to make voice calls or text someone if you have data? It’s a data-centric world, so make data your default offering. And just give users the option to convert creds to calls or SMS if they really need it.

GOMO is also 5G-ready. Again, because it has digitally-savvy users in mind. Plus it also upgraded its current offer to 30GB (from 25GB) with No Expiry, with the same price of Php299.

GOMO will also launch an exclusive offer in key cities of Visayas and Mindanao on March 15. A regional exclusive, GOMO customers in the region will be able to subscribe to UNLI DATA for 30 days for only Php199.

An app for everything

Fully digital, GOMO doesn’t have any physical stores or hotlines, which has enabled them to cut down on operating costs. As an innovative brand, its experience is designed to be simple and convenient for its customers by giving them everything they need in a mobile app — from buying a SIM, purchasing promos, and even after-sales.

“This is why GOMO doesn’t have any load or bills. We give our customers the things that matter most to them, and that is data. And it’s not just plain data. It is data that lives forever,” Tanbauco said.

I asked him what the relationship is between GOMO and Globe Telecom, which developed their mobile app.

“GOMO is a service brand of Globe. We run on the Globe network, of course. Globe having the largest and best network in the Philippines. It’s really about providing the best digital experience, which is the vision of the company, in order for us to really help each and every Filipino pursue their purpose,” he said.

Apart from innovation, GOMO is also about awesome experiences. In 2020, it brought 88rising stars through its online concert. It has also partnered with SHOOR to bring exciting digital experiences to Filipinos.

Today, March 8, the digital telco has launched the GOMO Awesome Hunt, with exclusive GOMO kits up for grabs.
