The stars of the Netflix Original Series “Love Alarm“, Kim So Hyun and Song Kang, have expressed how grateful they are for the outpouring of love from global fans.

“I’ve actually been surprised by the number of global fans asking when they could see the second season and who Jojo will end up with. So I really was able to feel the popularity globally,” said Kim So Hyun at the “Love Alarm” Season 2 virtual press briefing held today by Netflix Korea.

“Yes, definitely [I’ve felt that love from global fans], in all the languages worldwide when I see the comments on my SNS accounts. I also got a lot of comments from fans asking when could we get Season 2 for ‘Love Alarm’. So that made me realize how much love this series received and I felt very happy,” said Song Kang.

“Love Alarm”, which was released on Netlix in 2019, is the live-action adaptation of the popular webtoon by Chon Kye Young. This is a world where a mobile app can tell individuals if someone they like or if someone who likes them is within a 10-meter radius.

The series has fascinated fans not only because of the entertaining storyline, but also because of the dynamic chemistry of the three main actors: So Hyun (Jojo), Jung Ga Ram (Hye-yeong) and Song Kang (Sun-oh). In fact, this love triangle has created many Hye-yeong and Sun-oh empathizing devotees.

Netflix shared that fans from around the globe wrote in many languages clamoring for more of the unfinished love story among these three. A 25-fold increase in the number of followers within a short period for Song Kang’s social media is a testament to the attention they were receiving.

More mature characters

While “Love Alarm” Season 2 is returning two years after capturing the hearts of global fans, the story picks up four years after the events in Season 1.

The characters are no longer high students but adults, and so viewers should expect a lot of changes in Season 2. In particular, Sun-oh is a completely different character from Season 1, Song Kang said.

“In Season 1, Sun-oh was a high school student. You saw the pure and youthful side of him. However, since he broke up with his high school crush Jojo, he’s very heartbroken. But in Season 2, Sun-oh becomes more mature, grown up, and you’ll be able to see Sun-oh as an adult,” Song Kang said.

Song Kang will bring more depth and emotional insight to the character to show the pain he is feeling because he has not forgotten his first love.

Kim So Hyun on portraying Jojo

So Hyun, who won the Excellence Award for Actress in a Miniseries at the 2019 KBS Drama Awards for her role in “The Tale of Nokdu”, said she has tried her best to convey the confusion that her character Jojo feels.

“Jojo is a character who used to be very defensive, in a way. She was wary about her feelings being exposed to others. She was afraid of other people knowing how she truly felt. Which leads her to use the shield function on the Love Alarm app, so that no one knows how she actually feels.

“And in the second season, the frustration because of having used the shield leads to Jojo taking different actions. And it leads to her personal growth and development, which you will be able to see in the second season. Jojo doesn’t know how she feels as well because her feelings are guarded to herself because of the shield.”

Asked what she has learned as a person and an actress from portraying Jojo, So Hyun replied: “Jojo was put into a position where she had to make a difficult decision. And she also obviously had to meet the consequences of her actions and be responsible for the choices she makes. So I think through portraying the character Jojo, I was once again reminded of the consequences that follow your decisions in life. I think as an actress, I learned how to be more detailed, how to be more subtle in portraying the excitement, the heart fluttering, as well as the sense of fear. You know, there are many situations in your early 20s that you were put into where you feel fear and excitement.”

“Love Alarm’ Season 2 premieres on March 12, only on Netflix.
