Marie Kondo: ‘Sparking Joy’ goes beyond just tidying
“I want to help people to find joy not just by tidying their homes, but in every area of their lives,” Marie Kondo says in the trailer of her upcoming Netflix series “Sparking Joy“.
The famous Japanese organizing consultant and best-selling author is taking her signature approach to tidying up a step further in her new series, which will premiere on the streaming platform on Aug. 31. “Sparking Joy”, which will have three 40-minute episodes, will show how to apply the fundamentals of her KonMari Method to businesses, relationships, and communities.
Marie Kondo and the art of sparking joy
The impact of tidying is surprising, emotional, and transformative in the lives of the people Kondo meets.
“I’m really excited. My dad wants to teach me more and more about our business. But he’s not used to letting go,” one them shares with a laugh in the trailer.
Another one shares: “By the time I get home, I don’t have much energy left for my family or for myself.”
Throughout the process, viewers will also step into Kondo’s own home, meet her family, and get a glimpse into how she sparks joy in her daily life.
Kondo has written four books on organizing. She is best known for “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing“, which has been published in more than 30 countries.
The success of the Netflix series “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” in 2019 gave her even more even recognition, and a nomination for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program.
Kondo offers a certification course to train organizing consultants in the KonMari Method. In the Philippines, for example, certified KonMari consultant Renelyn Tan-Castillejos runs her own decluttering business called Yorokobi (which means “joy” in Japanese).
